They (Police) bleat on about the need to 'educate' the public, more awareness of the problem (as if!), the 'need to make the public safe' and the need for a stronger deterrent to prevent people from doing it; however, there is little or no mention of actual enforcement of the law.
That's because, as we all know and have written about many times before (see Blog, Peter Hitchens On B.B.C. 1 'Question Time' 4/11/15, of 6/11/15), not only do the Police not actually police the streets anymore, but they have been busy cutting road traffic policing units, running them down in to the ground and thereby given up on the roads as well.
When exactly was the last time you saw a Police, traffic patrol car?
We've said it before and we'll say it again (Mobile 'phones and driving... fines 15/12/15, Calm down dear! It's only a Road Traffic Offence 20/9/16), you can make the penalty life in prison without parole, but if you're not actually going to patrol the roads and subsequently enforce the law, there' no point.
The politically correct Police are so weak, 'asking' and 'urging' people not to do it, it's pathetic.
They should start trying to do their job and enforce the law.
Then there's always the out of touch, upper class judiciary, sat comfortably in their ivory towers.
Given that the maximum sentence for causing death by dangerous driving is apparently 14 years and given that this idiot killed 4 people; quite just how many people you have to kill or how much more horrendous it has to be before you get the maximum, is unbelievable.
I would have thought killing 3 children and an adult, injuring several others and damaging 8 vehicles, simply because you're not looking where you're going whilst driving a lorry, would be a pretty good contender for the maximum sentence.
Apparently not though, as despite this the judge chose to be on the lenient side.
