Every budget I've lived through, it costs the Exchequer to give tax cuts.
We're led to believe that apparently, all the people who were paying 50 pence in the pound tax on their income but are now paying 45 pence in the pound, are now somehow paying more.
You do the maths.
H.M Government was receiving 50 pence for every pound earned, but they now take 45 pence for every pound.
In my book, that's less money received by the Treasury.
At a time of desperation in Public services finances and with the NHS in dire straits, the Tory Government is not only happy to give away some 13 billion pounds odd in foreign aid, but their stated ‘priority’ is to cut the higher rate of income tax and corporation tax, further still.
To cut any tax rates at a time of lack of public funding for essential services is bizarre, but to cut the tax rates for the richest people in society is sheer, criminality.
But their 'priority' is to lower the tax rate on the income which people earn, over £150,000 a year; sheer insanity.
Forget the claptrap about how that will create jobs, it simply means people who are already very wealthy not only get to make even more money, but they get to keep more of it as well.
What the Tories actually mean is that they are going to have a banquet with their wealthy elite paymasters and everyone else should just be grateful for any crumbs which fall off their dining table.
